ART THEME: MIDDLE EASTERN ART
Students will used visual creativity to develop an understanding of the cultural norms this ancient society valued. The study of the art and expression tells the story of their traditions and customs. Middle Eastern Art is distinguish by geometric patterns, floral and calligraphy. Utilitarian objects for centuries have been embellished with complicated patterns and designs.
FIRST PROJECT: Floral Batiks.
Viewing many Middle Eastern carpet floral designs, students created their own floral pattern and were introduced to a textile process called batik.

SECOND PROJECT: Tessellations are geometric repeating patterns. There are three different forms; translation, rotation and reflection. Students chose their tessellation and created their own art inside of the shape which was personally designed.
Pressed Clay Design Boxes. Students created a designed tile which was the template for the creating of their box. Intricate tiles are wonderfully displayed on Middle Eastern architecture, courtyards and on wooden boxes.
