ART THEME: THE MAYAN CULTURE

FIRST PROJECT: The Maya hieroglyphic writing is very complex, with hundreds of unique signs or glyphs in the form of humans, animals, supernaturals, objects, and abstract designs. Students used many of the Mayan design elements of rounded corners, dots and fat lines to create their own glyphs representational of themselves and their personal interests. Watercolor backgrounds add texture to students personal glyphs
The Mayan Calender: The calender is a round pictograph which depicts the Mayan year based on important farming, hunting and harvesting cycle as well as political and religious events. Students used the circle to showcase their personal yearly events.
Mayan Copper Masks: Students used Repousse to create their masks.
