Welcome to Mrs. Mehalek's homeroom
Theme: German Folk Culture/Holocaust Art
Students will explore German folk culture, arts and artifacts and motifs. The best way to describe folk art is to say it is the craftsmanship of people from a local area which depicts the everyday life and social beliefs. We will also touch on the art produced during and as reflection to the Holocaust.

Project 1: Abstract German Folk Motifs. Students looked at many of the symbols and designs used in/on German Folk paintings and artifacts. Students were to use a folk design or element to create a more contemporary design using their own personal thoughts and insight.
Project 2: Still Life in Graphite. Not all projects are based on the theme.
Project 3: German Folk Scherenschnittes: Means "scissor cuts" in German is the art of paper cutting design. The art work often has symmetry within the design, and common forms include silhouettes, valentines, and love letters. Students brought their own personal lens into their work to create more modern folk art!
