American Oppression: Native Americans and African Americans have experienced cultural repression. Students will used visual creativity to develop an understanding of the cultural norms these two ancient societies valued. The study of their art and expression tells the story of their traditions and customs.
American Oppression: Native Americans and African Americans have experienced cultural repression. Students will used visual creativity to develop an understanding of the cultural norms these two ancient societies valued. SECOND PROJECT: Totem poles are sculptures carved from large trees which depicts emblems of animals and mythological creatures that are believed to have spiritual and personal significance to Native Americans. They are thought to scare away evil spirits.
Students used collage to depict their personal totem story.
THIRD PROJECT: Spirit Circles or Medicine Wheels are ceremonial circles of stones used by Native Americans for healing, rituals and reminders of all forms of life can live in peaceful co-existence and interdependent on each other. Students used the "circle of life" to use line, pattern and form to create monochromatic designs.
